I believe he immigrated from Wurttemberg, Germany to Canada about 1830, & possibly married a Mary Walt. In 1831, he had a son Joseph Gottlieb Ulmer (possibly born in Canada) before moving to Medina County, Ohio where eventually the family settled & bought a farm in Brunswick, Ohio (next to Liverpool Township). Sometime in the late 1840's, however, Sam's wife died and then he died in 1849. Interestingly, a David Keller is listed as a witness on Sam Ulmer's court documents and I have wondered if he was a relative of the family. By your records, there was a David Keller who was a grandson of Anna Margarete Ulmer and Johann Heinrich Leibbrandt and son of Christine Leibbrand and Johnan Jacob Keller who is buried in Liverpool Township, Ohio. In fact, I believe I have seen the Keller family tombstone in the cemetery behind the Zion Lutheran Church in Abbeyville, Ohio. Are we related? I have always wondered why Samuel Ulmer migrated to Medina County in the 1830's, and his connection to the Keller family could be the reason. Is there a connection between my Ulmer family and Anna Margarete Ulmer? I look forward to hearing from you. best, Debra Hallock
